Elyla is a cochónx barro-mestiza, a non-binary performance artist and activist. Their work often moves between video-performance, installations, photo-performance, experimental theatre, radical activism and site specific political interventions. Elyla is the first Nicaraguan artist to receive an Emerging Artist grant by the Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation in 2018. They’ve presented their work for The Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics, NYU Encuentros in 2014, 2016, and 2019. Biennials include the IX/X Biennial of Nicaragua, IX/X Central American Biennials and the XII Biennial of Havana, Cuba. They are a member and founder of Operación Queer (2013) collective formed by Nicaraguan academics, artists and activists in order to create trans-feminist and de-colonial reflections in the Central America region. Elyla is currently an Artist Protection Fund Fellow by Institute of International Education (IIE) in residence at Bucknell University, supported by the Ekard Artist Residency.

Elyla es una cochónx barro-mestiza, un artista del performance y activista no binarie. Su trabajo a menudo se mueve entre video-performance, instalaciones, foto-performance, teatro experimental, activismo radical e intervenciones políticas en el espacio público sitio-específicas. Elyla es la primera artista Nicaragüense en recibir una subvención para artistas emergentes de la Fundación de Arte Cisneros Fontanals en 2018. Han presentado su trabajo para el Instituto Hemisférico de Performance y Política de NYU en los Encuentros del 2014, 2016 y 2019. Las bienales donde ha participado incluyen las IX/X Bienal de Nicaragua, IX/X Bienales Centroamericanas y la XII Bienal de La Habana, Cuba. Es miembrx y uno de los fundadores del colectivo Operación Queer (2013) formado por académicos, artistas y activistas nicaragüenses para crear reflexiones trans-feministas y de-coloniales en la región Centro Americana. Actualmente, Elyla es becarix del Fondo de Protección de Artistas del Instituto de Educación Internacional (IIE) donde también cuenta con el apoyo de la Residencia de Artistas Ekard de la Universidad Bucknell.
